Our Story

Tommy grew up in a bicycle factory. His family has been building bikes for more than 30 years and was among the first factories to mass-produce electric bicycles. Over the last decade, Tommy worked with customers from around the world, helping develop thousands of bikes for different brands, markets, and riders.

Marie arrived in Hong Kong from France for what was supposed to be a six-month internship. She never really got around to leaving. What started as a six-month internship became a relationship, then a marriage, a lot of weekend bike rides, and the beginnings of Cadence.

Having lived everywhere from small French villages to Strasbourg and Paris, she brought something Tommy couldn't learn from a factory: an understanding of how ordinary people actually use bicycles in their daily lives. For Marie and many of her friends, bicycles weren't a hobby or a weekend sport. They were simply the easiest way to get around. To school. To work. To the bakery. To meet friends. To get home after a long day.

Somewhere between weekend bike rides, and far too many arguments about bicycles, they realised they had a unique opportunity. Tommy understood how bikes are built. Marie understood the people we wanted to build them for. Together, we decided to create the kind of bike brand we would want to buy from ourselves. A French brand, built on decades of manufacturing experience, designed for everyday riders.

Our Philosophy

We're not professional cyclists. Most weekends you'll find us riding to a café, a market, a friend's house, or wherever looks interesting.

That's probably why Cadence exists. We build bikes for everyday riders. Commuters. Students. Parents. Retirees. People carrying groceries, backpacks, children, or occasionally all three at the same time.

Over the years, we've watched more and more bicycles become internet products. The goal wasn't always to build a better bike. Too often, bikes were designed around a price tag rather than the people riding them. The result? Lower quality components. Less support. Fewer local bike shops. And too many riders left wondering who to call when something goes wrong.

We think there's a better way. We believe buying online should be easy, but we don't believe local bike shops should disappear. We believe good bikes deserve good support. We believe real people still matter.

That's why Cadence only works with bike shops across France. Not because it's the easiest way to do things, but because we think it's the right way. The internet is great. Local bike shops are too. We decided to use both.

We're trying to build the bike for everyday adventures. For cafés, commutes, and everything in between. And occasionally somewhere unexpected.
